I am a pet dog trainer

just started in the past year
actually. I have a client who asked about her dog…. on more than one occasion, their neighbors dog has urniated on their dog, Kayla. Kayla then freaks out, running all over the yard, house, etc. Growling, crying, etc. The only way for them to get her to stop was to catch her and put her in her crate to calm down.
Does anyone know what this behavior is related to? She is a fabulous, well loved, well socialized dog. She was in my puppy class, and her owners work with her very well!
I’d appreciate any insight on this matter.
Thank you!

Can you give us a little bit better description of the event? How many times has this happened, what is the relationship of these dogs (how long have they known each other, what breeds are they, ages, sizes, genders, etc), and are the dogs supervised or unsupervised when this happens?

Right off the top, without knowing more, I would NOT let this neighbor dog have access to Kayla. Urination of one dog on another is NOT a compliment, as you can see by Kayla’s reaction. If somebody urinated on me I’d probably have a similar reaction (or worse!).

I will have to ask my client those questions. I do know that there is a fence, chain link, and that it happened through the fence. Kayla was in my puppy class, so she was maybe about 4 or 5 months at the time. It had happened twice that I know of. Kayla is a female, mix breed and like I said she’s a puppy, so not very big. I’d say a mix of lab and something. I’ll find out for sure though what they were told anyway. She had a similar reaction when she lost a tooth. The vet said the blood might have freaked her out….. other than these events, the dog is an absolute ideal dog! The family has two young teenagers who train her and work and play with her a lot. VERY good bond between them all.
I appreciate your input, I never heard of such a reaction! I’ll give the family a call this week and try to get more information.
    Thanks again!
